Create a Relaxed Haven in the Bedroom
By Beverly Marshall
We spend one third of our lives in the bedroom so feeling relaxed in the room is essential. People that have trouble sleeping or even relaxing in bed should look at how the room is decorated. If you are one of the people that has insomnia and have never considered how the bedroom looks in relation to how you feel in the room, read on. Very few other places should capture our attention like that of the bedroom. It does not matter if you are alone in the bed or not, you might try looking at this room through Feng Shui eyes.
Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of placement. There are many schools of Feng Shui, but most of the principles are the same. Comfort, balance, relaxation and harmony should be the goal of how every room, home or business feels. When it comes to the bedroom, Feng Shui decoratingideas suggest the best place to position a bed and even the best place in the house to have the master bedroom. The placement of these things has a direct affect on how you relax and sleep.
When you think about the bedroom, you may be thinking about your current partner or finding a partner. Practicing Feng Shui involves using metaphor, so look around your bedroom and see what you are telling the Universe. Where is the master bedroom? Is it placed over a garage? Many split-level homes have bedrooms over the garage and just imagine how it feels sleeping over gas fumes and toxins from a garage. Is the bedroom in the front of the house? This suggests the idea of mates being out of the house a lot and it is not beneficial to a healthy relationship. A master bedroom should be at the back of the home for more privacy and in the far right corner of the home if possible. This is the partnership area of the home and it is supportive of a healthy relationship. If you have pictures on the walls of a figure standing alone, you are reinforcing the reality of being alone. Even if you have a partner, pictures of lone figures do not promote equality in a relationship. It is out of balance and Feng Shui is all about balance.
If you want to feel relaxed and comfortable, sleep well or find a partner check out a few of the following Feng Shui suggestions.
- Place two pink candles or hearts on a dresser in a bedroom. Think in pairs when placing items in a bedroom.
- Remove photos of family or other friends in the bedroom, as this is "your" space. Pictures of you and your partner are okay.
- Place the bed so that the head of the head of the bed is opposite the door. You want to see people as they enter.
- The head of the bed should not be over a window or you may feel lack of support.
- Don’t have a TV staring at you in bed. If you must watch TV, cover it up before you go to sleep at night.
- Try not to bring work home from the office only to work on it in the bedroom. You are sending the wrong message.
- Do not have many books surrounding your head when you sleep. All of that information could be confusing and distracting your sleep.
- Never place a ceiling fan above the bed because you do not want the feeling of having fan blades above your head.
- Having a night table on each side of the bed suggests there is another person in the bedroom, even when you do not have a partner.
- Paint your bedroom pink. Pink is the color of partnerships in Feng Shui.
- Make sure your bedroom door opens and closes easily. Noisy doors are disturbing.
- Place earthy elements in a bedroom such as plants, stones, crystals, or things that remind you of the earth.
Do not underestimate how you "feel" in a room. What is your subconscious telling you? These are just a few Feng Shui tips to be used as a guide. Have a clear intention of what you want in life and go about getting it. You can apply Feng Shui guidelines throughout the home and office with this ancient art and just see how much more relaxed you will feel in your home or bedroom with a few subtle changes.
