Forever Young
By Harry Caresworth
The first wrinkles make most of us want to cringe. It would
be nice, we think, to sit in one of those sci-fi time
machines to take us back to youthful skins, at least. That
might not be possible just yet, but fortunately, there are
remedies that we act on now.
Science is remarkable in its ability to discover what the
body can do to repair itself, so let's start with products
that don't come in a bottle.
A healthy diet leads to a healthy body. We already know
this. In addition, what you eat can also boost the
suppleness and plasticity of your skin.
Eating food containing both high water content and
antioxidants is the key. Antioxidants are important because
they assist your body fight pollutants and other toxins that
play havoc with your skin cells and collagen. In addition,
antioxidants contain vitamins A, E, C and B. If your diet is
lacking in vitamins, take a multivitamin supplement to help
protect your skin.
Omega fatty acids found in some edible oils help keep your
skin firm and elastic, improve the health of your hair and
protect you from heart disease.
One of the best sources of omega acids is Flax oil. If you
want to double the benefits, sprinkle some flax seeds on
your food as well.
But it's not just what you eat because you also need to
protect what skin you already have. And that's where
sunscreen plays an important role. You've heard it before,
but it's really the best defense against aging. Putting on
a sunscreen on any exposed skin each day will help to
eliminate problems later in your years.
Water is a great way of flushing out toxins from the body.
It also helps keep skin supple and prevents dryness. So
drink up.
The drier your skin, the more likelihood of developing
wrinkles or of accentuating existing ones.
When you find all this doesn't quite give you what you
wanted, you can always go to the beauty shelf in your local
store. You will find collagen and retinal-based face creams
and lotions. They are known to keep those first laughter
lines and delicate wrinkles to a bare minimum. And the
vitamin A and copper creams have shown good results too.
You may not be able to outrun aging, but you can certainly
make it harder to happen.
